Polling in Penanti smooth, says EC
BUKIT MERTAJAM: Polling in the Penanti state by-election is running smoothly, Election Commission chairman (EC) Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof said.
He said however that there were still parties and candidates who did not observe the EC rule, like putting logos and party flags on their vehicles and wearing clothes with party logos.
Although this was regrettable, the EC did not take action against the offenders because this was the first time that the rule was implemented, he told reporters after visiting the polling station at Sekolah Kebangsaan Tanah Liat here.
On Parti Keadilan Rakyat's (PKR) complaint that some voters names were not in the electoral roll, he said the EC would investigate the matter, adding that that was why it had advised the people to check the roll before polling day.
According to the EC, 4,593 or 29.86 per cent of the 15,384 voters had cast their votes as of noon.
Meanwhile, Penang police chief Datuk Ayub Yaakob, when met at Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Jit Sin (A) here, said the situation was calm, traffic flow was smooth with no report of any undesirable incidents so far. - Bernama
